Hi, my name is Steve Wang, and this is my Attivo Story.

Creative work experiences that enhance your skills

At Attivo, we work with early-stage companies, mostly Seed stage to Series C, which means there are endless opportunities to learn, be creative, solve complex financial problems, and design systems. The clients I’ve been able to work with span several sectors, including Enterprise and SMB SaaS, medical devices, and fintech. By working with different clients and their management teams, I’ve been able to gain deeper insight into the challenges, leadership, and vision required to build a successful company and how integral good financial support is in that journey. Each day is different because that’s the reality of working with an early-stage company: there are always new and interesting problems to solve.

Attivo has built learning and growth into the core of its company culture. Every employee has the opportunity to accelerate their learning through a variety of clients, systems, and team members connected to any given project. These experiences allow employees to get a cross-section view of what is going on in emerging growth companies, and ensure that team members become well rounded as finance and accounting professionals.

Mentorship and development opportunities are available to everyone

What sets Attivo apart from other consulting companies is the value placed on teamwork, training, and mentorship. This emphasis on professional development allows employees to reach their potential faster than working at a typical accounting job.

For example, as an accounting manager, I wouldn’t normally be given the opportunity to develop financial models from concept to implementation. Early in my time at Attivo, I was able to work closely with one of our CFOs to build a client’s financial model from scratch. This experience expanded my understanding of the levers that drive a company’s business and allowed me to easily create scenario analyses that helped our client’s management team think through strategic fundraising decisions.

There is an incredible openness and willingness across the company to share unique experiences and perspectives to help employees take the next step in their careers. In addition, Attivo hosts numerous monthly events like regular in-house presentations (aka “Lunch & Learns”) and presentations by our Attivo Alchemists (industry leaders and Attivo advisors) on relevant emerging growth topics. Finally, employees get frequent one-on-one time with CFOs/Mentors/colleagues as well as a commitment to outside learning through meetings with cross-functional industry experts.

Attivo’s teams excel through collaboration

The cornerstone of Attivo’s culture is collaboration. This is in stark contrast to the industry standard of an independent client engagement philosophy where employees are outsourced to clients and given very little support from their firm thereafter. Every Monday is a designated collaboration day, where the objective is to address our most vexing questions by taking advantage of the knowledge and experience on the team.

Collaboration is essential to Attivo’s workstyle. Whatever the problem or issue that needs to be solved, the team is there to provide quick and thoughtful responses. We’re able to use agile communication channels to leverage the team’s expertise in a way that serves our clients and helps employees feel supported. It’s easy to feel alone in the consulting environment, but at Attivo, you always feel like part of a team.

Accelerated Learning

Working at Attivo has allowed me to accelerate my skill development much faster than if I was full time at a startup, to grow in my problem-solving ability, and has put me in situations that keep the job exciting and interesting. I feel fortunate to work with interesting clients and to have an opportunity to understand and advise on their entire business. These experiences have helped me grow professionally and make me feel prepared for the future.
